What's a Cessna 182 worth?

Stock, unmodified Skylanes hold value surprisingly evenly across eras, a well-kept 1960s 182 and a 1980s 182Q aren't as far apart as you'd expect, since the type's cult backcountry/utility following supports older airframes. But the 182 market has an unusually large share of individually modified planes: STOL kits and 260hp+ engine conversions (Peterson, Air Plains, Ly-Con), Garmin G5/G500/G1000 glass retrofits on older airframes, and the retractable-gear R182RG and turbocharged T182/Turbo Skylane variants all trade as distinctly different, higher-priced planes than a stock example of the same year, sometimes 30-100%+ above stock. Restart-era models (2001+) sit above the classics, and within any era, whether the panel and engine are original is the single biggest price lever.

The biggest value drivers, in order:
  • Engine time (SMOH). Hours since major overhaul move the price more than almost anything, a fresh engine can swing value by tens of thousands.
  • Total airframe time. Lower-time airframes command a premium; very high time discounts the price.
  • Avionics. A modern glass panel adds real dollars; basic steam gauges are valued lower but cheaper to insure.
  • Damage history & logs. Clean, complete logs and no damage history protect resale value.
  • Condition, paint & interior. Cosmetics and a current annual round out the final number.
